Game description
Hero for Hire! is a one-level pre-release demo of the colourful EGA side-scrolling platform featuring Jason Storm, retired special forces Major turned private detective, pitted against the scheming Evil Guys, Inc. Spoofing various "space hero" tropes, this game also appears to be quite heavily inspired by Duke Nukem, and to a lesser extent, Bio Menace and Commander Keen.
Similar to the above titles, gameplay revolves around exploring mazelike levels, with a good deal of platform jumping, searching for coloured keys to progress further, and encounters with various monsters. Ammo here is limited, like in Bio Menace or Keen games. Also scattered across levels are various bonus items, many of which look like ice cream bowls for some reason, picking which will give additional points but not much more.
The pre-release demo includes one level which was not used in any chapter of the Space Chase trilogy, set on a space station.
