Game description
This is a fan remake of Sierra's King's Quest II: Romancing the Throne from the same team as King's Quest 1 VGA, and also built with Chris Jones' Adventure Game Studio (AGS). However, unlike the first remake, this one not only upgrades the visuals to VGA quality and adds optional voice-overs to dialogues, but also greatly expands (and partially rewrites) the story and includes quite a few new characters and locations, hence the altered subtitle (Romancing the Stones and the shortened moniker King's Quest II+ VGA.
Unlike the original King's Quest games, ADG adventures are controlled via a mouse-based point-and-click interface that should be familiar to any fan of the genre. The basic premise of the game is the same as in the original: Sir Graham from the first King's Quest, now crowned King of Daventry, sets off, alone, to the island of Kolyma to find his true love. Many of the original game's locations have been redrawn to match the style of later official instalments in the franchise, and, as mentioned above, many new places and puzzles have been added to improve what is arguably not the best part in the King's Quest series.
In 2009, AGD Interactive released a much-improved version 3.0 with even more voice acting and greatly enhanced art. This version is only available for Windows and Mac systems.
