Game description
Vertigo is a free, open source flight simulator that places emphasis on realistic flight models, but still has a small combat element. In fact, there are no civilian aircraft in this game, but neither are there any scenarios that involve military conflicts - you can only practice target shooting with the onboard cannon.
The main focus in Vertigo is on flying in realistic conditions (some factors like wind or engine failures can be turned off in the options to decrease difficulty a bit). You can take off from a runway and navigate by waypoints, practice landing or taking off from an aircraft carrier, or even land the lunar module. It is advised to carefully read the included manual to get a grasp of controls and flying mechanics before you play.
Vertigo was developed as a free, open source project. The latest release is version 0.26 but it is still a fully featured game. The source code is also available, published under the GNU GPL License Version 2.
