Game description
Super Breakout is a Breakout variant that runs in high-resolution 640x480 mode and features 100 levels, multiple powerups and a level editor.
The player's objective in each level is to remove all bricks by hitting them with a ball that bounces around the screen. The player can only move a paddle at the bottom of the screen, which prevents the ball from falling off-screen (in which case one life is subtracted from the counter), and can to an extent determine the trajectory and speed of the ball's flight. Some bricks cannot be broken, while some contain powerups (and powerdowns) that grant the ball or the paddle additional abilities. These include guns that the player can fire from the paddle to destroy bricks, ball speed modifiers (faster or slower) and strength upgrades that allow the ball to destroy several bricks in a range or break through multiple bricks without bouncing off. Some of the powerups need to be collected with the paddle, while other activate as soon as the ball touches the respective brick.
The game was written in C/C++ and originally marketed as shareware. Eventually the author released it as freeware. The level editor, which was originally only available to registered users, allows to modify any of the levels in the game.
