Game description

Starcom is a very playable scrolling shooter that alternates between top-down and side-view action. You control a small, versatile craft that is facing waves of very hostile aliens, both in space and in the atmosphere of various planets. The only way to upgrade your ship's weapons and recharge shields is to pick up useful powerups that are either dropped by destroyed enemies or just fly down your way.

The story casts the player as a lone fighter pilot who disobeys direct orders and heads off into a distant star system after receiving a distress call. Turns out there are aliens on a space conquest, and the only hero to stop them is you, the player.

Starcom was originally sold as shareware, but after publisher Laser Point closed down, the developers declared the full game freeware. There are 21 levels in the registered version.

Cheats

At the password screen enter the code: 6716127
After doing that it will take you back to the main menu. When you try to enter another password it will prevent you from going into the password screen. Instead type a number between 1 and 21 and press enter. This will let you select a level you wish to start on.

There is one more cheat:

Hit "P" during gameplay to pause the game. Now hold down the keys "L A C" on the keyboard all at once. This will enable/disable god mode. You are now invinsible and can advance quickly through the levels by holding the ALT key.
