Game description

Overheat is a racing game that seems to take heavy cues from The Need for Speed, but it overall quite modest in execution. The game is set in the United States in the 80s, an you can take part in street races or police car chases, in the latter case as either a cop or an escaping criminal.

The game includes 7 tracks of varying difficulty (most of which must be unlocked), and 10 different cars, among them a police car, a van and a heavy truck, all of which have different specs like speed and maneuverability. The cars are rendered in full 3D, but many scenery objects are represented by flat sprites, much like in The Need for Speed.

Overheat was originally sold commercially, but in the mid-2000s, developer Microforum made the full version available as a free download. Although released in Italy, the game itself is in English.
