Game description
This is an unofficial conversion of the popular ZX Spectrum game Manic Miner, featuring Miner Willy on his quest to find riches in underground caves. Each level is a separate one-screen room filled with obstacles (most are zany creatures entirely harmful to the player character), and the objective is to collect all items and reach the exit in one piece before the air runs out.
The game faithfully recreates the mechanics and level layouts of the original Manic Miner, but upgrades visuals with 256-colour sprites for the main character, monsters, obstacles and tiles. The game is pretty hard and requires a bit of precision to navigate around the hazards, combining puzzle and arcade action elements. Unless you're prepared to spend hours replaying a single level to master it, it is advised to use a DOSBox build with save states, allowing to save progress at any point in the game.
Manic Miner PC was released as freeware, and the source code is also available.
