Game description
Kroz is a series of arcade action-adventure video games created by Scott Miller (founder of Apogee Software) with textmode graphics. The player controls a character represented by a smiley face from an overhead perspective who ventures into dangerous places to find treasure. The objective is to collect gems while fighting or avoiding hostile creatures in real-time. Gems represent the player's health as each attack by the creature takes away one. The player can collect whips (probably inspired by Indiana Jones) to destroy all nearby creatures, and teleport scrolls to randomly move around the playing field.
Kroz was the first Apogee game and played a huge role in the company's market success. It was eventually discontinued, but on 20 March 2009, 3D Realms released the complete series as freeware along with the source code.
