Game description
Frenetic is a 360-degree "planar shooter" (in the author's own words) where the player controls a flying mecha suit and must fight continuous waves of enemies in similar suits. There are three types of battle suit available to the player, with the amount of armour inversely proportional to the movement speed. Each suit type has several different primary and secondary weapon types available for selection.
The game campaign includes six missions that take place on different worlds. Each stage is an arena-like battle that is split into several waves of enemies of different types that attack the player.
The player's main gun can fire continuously, but will heat up, which is indicated by the orange bar near the health meter that slowly fills up, so you need to pause to cool down the weapon. The secondary weapon also has unlimited ammo, but this is compensated by slow reloading time. The enemies will try to dodge the player's attacks, and it takes a bit of skill and strategy to destroy all opponents while evading their projectiles and minimizing damage.
Once a new mission is unlocked, it can be re-played with a different suit and weapon configuration. The game also tracks the player's high scores.
Frenetic was released as freeware. The game was developed with the Allegro library and has both DOS and Windows native versions.
