Game description
This is an unofficial, authorised conversion of the ZX Spectrum game called Earth Shaker (originally released in 1990). The general premise is very similar to that of Boulder Dash: the player controls a cute little creature that digs through soil and must collect a certain number of diamonds and reach the exit before the time runs out. There are boulders that will fall under their weight and may crush the player character, alongside other hazards and useful items.
Earth Shaker somewhat expands the basic Boulder Dash formula, adding new types of items and hazards, as well as novel mechanics such as gravity-altering switches that will make everything fall upwards. There are 32 levels.
The game was originally written for ZX Spectrum by Michael Batty and released in 1990 as a free bonus on a cover tape of Your Sinclair magazine. A PC version was developed by David Pegg and released in 2002. Pegg was in contact with Batty and the latter evidently approved of the remake. The PC version includes optional enhanced graphics and a high score table.
