Game description

Black Zone is a non-violent platform game with a heavy focus on puzzles. Visually, it is rather similar to Mick by the same author, but tells a different story altogether. The player character is a brave explorer who sets out into the Black Zone -- an abandoned city full of strange automatons that were left after what looked like an alien invasion incident. Most of the inhabitants appear to have literally vanished into thin air, but some believe they can still be rescued.

The player moves around between static screens, without any scrolling, like in Prince of Persia. Most obstacles come in the form of puzzles that involve the player operating ever more complicated machinery like moving platforms or lifts, which can be programmed to act in a specific fashion by accessing nearby consoles. There appears to be no time limit, and the player character can survive falls from great heights without any repercussions, although later on there may be hazards that will hurt the player. However, enemies in the literal sense, and any kind of combat, are conspicuously absent from Black Zone.

The game was sold commercially, and unlike Mick, no official freeware version was ever offered by the authors. A playable one-level demo was found on a magazine coverdisk.
